Greetings Padawans/Apprentices
Welcome to Secular Web Kids (SWK)
This site has been designed to foster creative and critical thinking in kids of all ages. We believe that when critical thinking is consistently and carefully applied to our understanding of life, it often results in the secular worldview.
Secularism is the position that supernatural entities such as ghosts, angels, and gods do not exist, or at least that there is no compelling evidence to think they do. We argue that belief in invisible angels has as much foundation in rational thought as belief in invisible fairies or leprechauns.
According to the Pew Research Center’s 2012 global study of 230 countries and territories, 16% of the world’s population is not affiliated with any religion, and so we feel it’s important for kids to learn about secularism as a part of multiculturalism/pluralism education.
Introduction Gamification Video Game: WHAT IS RELIGION?
Have you ever wondered what religion is, or how you can “level up” from being a kid singing in the church choir, to being a cool youth pastor, to being a millionaire megachurch pastor? Of course you have, so welcome to the video game below Totem Volcano and the Island of “SEEASANOUTSIDER,” where you solve increasingly complex puzzles to save religious totems that prevent the Volcano God from getting angry and erupting on you.
Questions:
1. Using ideas from playing the game and other background knowledge you have, how would you define RELIGION?
2. Why is gamification (using games to teach) an important way of learning?
3. Bonus: Create an easy videogame to teach something to a student who is younger than you.
ps. For parents, teachers, and older students who want to think more about looking at a religion from the point of view of an outsider (the secret behind the name of the island), check out John Loftus’ book The Outsider Test For Faith

On this site you will find sections for kids, parents/guardians, and teachers, where you can explore secular content and interact with us. We hope you find our site educational and fun.
