The bible says the Jewish people are the apple of God’s eye, his specially chosen one among all the nations. This is often used on TV to raise money, because people are told God will bless them if they bless Israel financially. For example, we read:
Numbers 24:9New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
- 9 He crouched; he lay down like a lion
and like a lioness; who will rouse him up?
Blessed is everyone who blesses you,
and cursed is everyone who curses you.”
Genesis 12:3New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
- 3 I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Clearly, there is nothing wrong with financially supporting someone in need, but does it make sense to say the creator of all reality is waiting for you to send $50.00 to a particular group so he can open the vaults of heaven for you? It’s interesting too that the Christian groups asking for money for Israel often want the money to continue to spread the message of Jesus to Israel (eg., the Daystar network)! Does this inspire you to make a meme? Here’s a fun example:

Don’t underestimate the power of a meme just because it is short. We have powerful short ideas in Philosophy, all the way from the tiny fragments of the pre-Socratics to the short aphorisms of Nietzsche. Learn to get to the essence of your ideas. Heidegger said the fact we need books of 400 pages or more to express ourselves shows just how far we are from essential thinking.
